Former Wings’ player helps Troy kids plant garden

June 27, 2011

Troy is a group of youth and volunteers in Oakland Country.  A former Detroit Red Wing Kirk Maltby helps the Boys & Girls Club of Troy’s first garden to plant four fruit and vegetable gardens together with the 40 club members.

This project is the second Michigan garden which was developed by Amway’s Positive Sprouts organic gardening program. It is designed to teach youth about organic gardening, nutrition and cooking.

According to Amy Lamparter, spokeswoman for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, teaching the club members will help themselves maintain a healthy lifestyle. They can witness the gardens that grow throughout the year and harvest them, during the fall.
